Baseball Recap: C.B. Aycock Sets Scoring Season-High Against Southern Wayne

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask C.B. Aycock). They put the hurt on the Southern Wayne Saints with a sharp 18-0 victory on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Not much got past Braxton Toler, who gave up just three hits to keep Southern Wayne off the board. Toler also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because C.B. Aycock is 4-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 7-11 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Janeson Steele was incredible, firing off three home runs, seven RBI, and four runs while going 3-for-3. He has become a key player for C.B. Aycock: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least three hits, but 9-11 otherwise. Jones Winters was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

C.B. Aycock always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

The victory (which was C.B. Aycock's third in a row) raised their record to 11-12. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Southern Wayne, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-16 record this season.
