Softball Recap: Monday's Defeat Ends Central's Winning Streak

If Central was riding high fresh off their 14-4 takedown of W.S. Neal last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Central Jaguars lost 10-2 to the Monroe Academy Volunteers on Monday. The Jaguars were red-hot at the plate heading into the game (they scored no less than ten runs in the five matches prior), but the Volunteers' pitcher proved too tough.

Central saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shelby Zigler, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Zigler has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.

With the loss, Central broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.4 runs over those games. As for Monroe Academy, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.

Coming up, Central will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Destin at 5:00 p.m. Monroe Academy will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Fort Dale Academy at 5:30 p.m. on April 7th.
