Preview: Pickens County Tornadoes vs. Wadley Bulldogs
The Pickens County Tornadoes will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Wadley Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on November 24th. One thing working in Pickens County's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last five matches.
With a playoff game on the line, Pickens County rose to the challenge on Friday. They came out on top against Winterboro by a score of 38-29.
Among those leading the charge was Rozowicz Cunningham, who rushed for 130 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 carries. Kemaurion Plott was another major influence, as he rushed for 23 yards and ran in a TD.
Meanwhile, Wadley put the finishing touches on their 11th blowout victory of the season on Friday. They claimed a resounding 81-27 victory over South Lamar on the road. The victory was familiar territory for Wadley who now have six in a row.
Wadley's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Cortavion Lynch, who rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries, and Jaquez Wilkes, who rushed for 164 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries. Wilkes hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for six straight games. Frisco Robertson was in the mix too, providing Wadley with two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Pickens County to 9-3 and Wadley to 11-1.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Pickens County has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 151.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Wadley struggles in that department as they've been even better at 295 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches. Pickens County strolled past Wadley when the teams last played back in November of 2022 by a score of 34-15. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pickens County since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
