Basketball Recap: Augusta Prep Day Comes Up Short

Augusta Prep Day fought the good fight in their overtime game against Edmund Burke Academy on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 53-52 to the Edmund Burke Academy Spartans. The Cavaliers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Augusta Prep Day's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elijah McFadgen, who posted 14 points and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was MJ Sweeney, who put up 14 points.

Even though they lost, Augusta Prep Day smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 13 consecutive matchups.

Edmund Burke Academy had a senior duo take command as Blake Reddick almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine boards and Mark Wasden dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Wasden is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Carey, who scored seven points and eight rebounds.

Augusta Prep Day's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-5. As for Edmund Burke Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.

Augusta Prep Day wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 44-41 defeat against Westminster Schools of Augusta on the 16th. Edmund Burke Academy has also already played their next matchup, a 48-34 loss against Briarwood Academy on the 17th.
