Basketball Recap: GV Christian Triumphs

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but GV Christian ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. In a tight game that could have gone either way, they made off with a 47-46 victory over the Laughlin Cougars. The score was all tied up 23-23 at the break, but the Guardians were the better team in the second half.

GV Christian was led to victory by Samantha Charron and Alyssa Bound. Charron dropped a double-double on 22 points and 23 rebounds, while Bound dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 boards. That's the most rebounds Bound has posted since back in January of 2024.

GV Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive contests.

Valeria Quintero and AmorA ThomAs certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Quintero posted 18 points and eight steals, while Thomas dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards. Another player making a difference was Alexandra Arellano, who earned four points and five rebounds.

GV Christian has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 8-9 record this season. As for Laughlin, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

GV Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 50-22 defeat against Lincoln County on the 14th. Laughlin has also already played their next contest, a 34-30 win against Lake Mead Christian Academy on the 11th.
