Basketball Recap: Orem Takes a Loss

Orem won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Friday. They had to suffer through a 61-30 loss at the hands of the Payson Lions. The defeat continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Lions: they've now lost four in a row.

It was another big night for Quincey Mathews, who went 7 of 13 en route to 20 points along with five assists and five rebounds for Payson. The team also got some help courtesy of Emmy Hales, who went 5 for 10 on her way to 13 points in addition to six boards and four steals.

Orem's loss dropped their record down to 4-15. As for Payson, they pushed their record up to 16-1 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season.

Orem will venture away from home to square off against Uintah at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Payson, they will welcome Provo at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Payson knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matches -- so hopefully Provo likes a good challenge.
