Volleyball Recap: Juneau-Douglas Comes Up Short + How To Watch

Juneau-Douglas suffered their biggest loss since November 15, 2024 on Thursday. They came up short against the Bettye Davis East Anchorage Thunderbirds, falling 3-0. The Crimson Bears haven't had much luck with the Thunderbirds recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Juneau-Douglas couldn't get the win, but they sure gave Bettye Davis East Anchorage a tough time in the second set. The final score came out to 25-18, 33-31, 25-22.

Lavinia Ma'Ake paced Juneau-Douglas' offense, picking up 11 kills. Ma'Ake got some help from Liliane Veikoso and her 15 assists. Braith Dihle controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

Bettye Davis East Anchorage found their leader in sophomore Ellen Whitson, who had 11 digs and two aces. Whitson has been hot recently, having posted two or more aces the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Evelyn Whitson, who hit 68.4% for 26 kills and ten digs, three aces, and two blocks.

Juneau-Douglas' defeat dropped their record down to 19-14-6. As for Bettye Davis East Anchorage, their win ended a four-match drought at home and bumped them up to 13-19.

Juneau-Douglas has already played their next contest, a 2-0 loss against Dimond on the 24th. As for Bettye Davis East Anchorage, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 2-0 defeat against South Anchorage on the 24th.
