Recap: Newman International Academy Warriors vs. Chisholm Trail Academy Blazers
After flying high against the Spencerville Adventist Academy Hornets on Thursday, the Newman International Academy Warriors came back down to earth. Newman International Academy fell 56-46 to Chisholm Trail Academy on Thursday. Newman International Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Chisholm Trail Academy apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Newman International Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Deontae Casey. Despite the final result, he scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. That's the first time this season that Casey pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Gavin Ridder, who scored 14 points.
Even though they lost, Newman International Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chisholm Trail Academy only pulled down five offensive rebounds.
Chisholm Trail Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tony Planells, who scored 23 points along with seven rebounds. Landon Hopps was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with two steals.
Newman International Academy's loss dropped their record down to 15-9. As for Chisholm Trail Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season.
Newman International Academy on the road again on Friday and play against Burton Adventist Academy at 8:10 a.m. on January 26th. Burton Adventist Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1451st, while Newman International Academy is ranked 680th). As for Chisholm Trail Academy, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Takoma Academy at 9:10 a.m. on January 26th. Takoma Academy will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
