Recap: Westport Wildcats vs. Avon Panthers
The Westport Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight defeat. They suffered a tough 61-36 defeat at the hands of Avon. Westport was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 31-2.
Avon was led to victory by Nyisah Miranda and Josiah Guerrier. Miranda almost dropped a triple-double on 14 points, ten rebounds, and nine assists, while Guerrier dropped a double-double on 14 points and 22 rebounds. Guerrier has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last 14 times he's played. Ashad Bailey was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Westport has traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 11 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-23 record this season. As for Avon, their win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-2.
Westport's road trip will continue as they head out to face Southeastern RVT at 6:30 p.m. on February 12th. Southeastern RVT and Westport are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. As for Avon, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Diman RVT at 5:00 p.m. Avon knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven contests -- so hopefully Diman RVT likes a good challenge.
