Recap: Ventura Cougars vs. Buena Bulldogs
After losing to the Buena Bulldogs the last time they met, the Ventura Cougars decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Ventura came out on top against Buena by a score of 56-49 on Wednesday.
Among those leading the charge was Parsa Kamali, who scored 18 points along with six assists and two steals. That's the first time this season that he grabbed two or more steals. Travis Valenzuela was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with ten rebounds and five steals.
When it comes to explaining why Buena lost, one person who can't be blamed is Luke Ortiz. Despite the final result, he scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. Ortiz has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Josh ullegue, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Ventura's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-11. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.0 points per game. As for Buena, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 14 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season.
Ventura will be playing at home against Oxnard at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Oxnard is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games. As for Buena, they will head out on the road to take on Dos Pueblos at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
