Baseball Recap: Richard Comes Up Short

The Richard Pioneers didn't have quite enough to beat the Cranbrook Kingswood Cranes on Saturday and fell 10-9.

Andrew Magiera and Aiden Valatka did some serious damage despite the final result: Magiera went 3-for-5 with three runs and one stolen base, while Valatka got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one double. Valatka is becoming a predictor of Richard's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 1-14-1 when he doesn't). Cal Frump was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Richard's defeat dropped their record down to 3-15-1. As for Cranbrook Kingswood, their win ended a seven-game drought at home and bumped them up to 12-18.

Coming up, Cranbrook Kingswood will face off against Gabriel Richard at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Fighting Irish have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.64 runs per game on average), something the Cranes will no doubt try to take advantage of. Richard will be paying especially close attention to Cranbrook Kingswood's match: after Cranbrook Kingswood faces off against Gabriel Richard, they'll take on Richard again at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
