Softball Game Preview: Crean Lutheran Saints vs. Buena Park Coyotes

The Crean Lutheran Saints will challenge the Buena Park Coyotes at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Crean Lutheran has given up an average of 9.6 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Crean Lutheran came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 12-1 to Schurr. The Saints' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Buena Park). They never let Whitney get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Monday. The win continues a trend for the Coyotes in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won three in a row.

Mia Gonzalez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 17 over six innings pitched. What's more, she gave up only zero hits, the fewest she's had since back in March of 2024. She was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Layla Hinojos was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Calista Beltran, who scored a run while going 2-for-5.

Buena Park was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Whitney only posted a batting average of .000.

Buena Park now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Crean Lutheran, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
