Baseball Recap: Cathedral Catholic Comes Up Short

Cathedral Catholic had lost three straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 13-9 to make it four. They came up short against the St. Augustine Saints, falling 10-4. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Dons, who until this matchup were averaging 3.73 runs allowed.

Cathedral Catholic got a good showing from Shoei Darvish, who pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Darvish has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Chris LeTourneau made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

As for St. Augustine, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-8-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.4 runs over those games.

On St. Augustine's side, Ryan Popkins tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Drake Konja, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Shane Miranda, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.

While Cathedral Catholic had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
