Baseball Preview: Discovery Canyon Thunder vs. Pine Creek Eagles

The Discovery Canyon Thunder are taking a road trip to take on the Pine Creek Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Discovery Canyon will come into the match with an undefeated record on the line.

Last Tuesday, Discovery Canyon was able to grind out a solid win over Pueblo East, taking the game 7-4. Those seven runs were actually the fewest the Thunder have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Discovery Canyon got a great performance from Andrew Torres as he tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Torres has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Nate Singleton was incredible, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-3. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. Cole Teltschik was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run.

Pine Creek also got a good showing from Cade Johnson, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Pine Creek saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aidyn Williams, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Discovery Canyon's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0. As for Pine Creek, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-2.

Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Discovery Canyon has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.5 hits per game. However, it's not like Pine Creek struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Discovery Canyon skirted past Pine Creek 10-9 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Thunder since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
