Dock Mennonite is a perfect 9-0 against Jenkintown since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Pioneers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Drakes at 3:45 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Dock Mennonite has five straight wins, Jenkintown has 14 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Saturday, Dock Mennonite had just enough and edged out Springfield Township 5-4.
James Steinmetz looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
At the plate, Dock Mennonite let Logan Sell and Brayden Kratz run wild. Sell scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3, while Kratz went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those hits were Sell's first of the season.
Dock Mennonite was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .355 or higher in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Jenkintown came up short against The Christian Academy on Wednesday and fell 9-5.
Kyle Vnenchak made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Grayson Duffey, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Dock Mennonite pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Jenkintown, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.
Jenkintown's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Dock Mennonite has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Jenkintown, though, as they've been averaging only 3.6 strikeouts. Will Dock Mennonite keep running through batters, or will the Drakes buck the trend?
