Basketball Recap: Keone Tran's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Balboa over Galileo

Balboa was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They received a blow as they fell 53-36 to the Galileo Lions. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Buccaneers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 0-0 back in December of 2024.

Balboa's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Keone Tran, who posted 14 points. Another player making a difference was Gene Cuares, who had 11 points.

Even though they lost, Balboa smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Galileo can attribute much of their success to Darryn Wong, who went 6 for 9 en route to 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kody Fort, who put up seven points.

Balboa's defeat dropped their record down to 5-17. As for Galileo, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-11.

Balboa has already played their next match (against El Camino), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Galileo will take on Lincoln at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Lincoln's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven contests.
