Baseball Recap: Benton Starts Season with Win at Home

Benton gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Sullivan County Griffins. The win continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Griffins: they've now won eight in a row.

Cam Davis was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Dalton Koch and Cooper Schultz did most of the damage at the plate: Koch scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Schultz scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Those two hits gave Koch a new career-high. Tommy Zajac was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Benton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sullivan County only posted a batting average of .227.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Benton beat Sullivan County by a score of 6-1 on Wednesday.
