Preview: Pearl Pirates vs. Gulfport Admirals
The Pearl Pirates will head out on the road to face off against the Gulfport Admirals at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Thursday, Pearl never let their opponents score. They put the hurt on Meridian with a sharp 21-0 victory.
Meanwhile, after only seven points in their last match, Gulfport made sure to put some points up on the board against Harrison Central on Thursday. Gulfport breezed by Harrison Central on the road to the tune of 49-7. Given Gulfport's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked 16th, while Harrison Central is ranked 61st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Nicholas Williams had a dynamite game for Gulfport, throwing for 324 yards and four touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes, and also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Gulfport also got help from Gavin Brown who showed off his sure hands for 129 receiving yards.
Their wins bumped Pearl to 7-3 and Gulfport to 6-4.
Pearl and Gulfport were almost perfectly matched up in their previous matchup back in August of 2021, but Pearl suffered an agonizing 13-12 loss. Can Pearl avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
