Softball Recap: Chesapeake Drops Highest Score of Season Against South Gallia

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chesapeake). They put the hurt on the South Gallia Rebels with a sharp 18-7 win on Tuesday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Panthers as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Angel Hundley made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. Hundley was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 2-for-4. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on KJ Collins, who went 4-for-5 with four stolen bases, four runs, and four RBI. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Zoey Thompson, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run.

Chesapeake kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Chesapeake's win bumped their record up to 3-6. As for South Gallia, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chesapeake will host Fairland at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Dragons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.71 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for South Gallia, they will take on Oak Hill at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
