Volleyball Recap: Rootstown's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Wednesday

It was a good run, but Rootstown unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Wednesday. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Field Falcons. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Rovers of the 3-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

Rootstown started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 14-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-22.

Sophi Smith paced Rootstown's offense, picking up nine kills. Smith got some help from Kylie Shelly and her 12 assists. Finally, Colbie Curall kept Rootstown's defense grounded, leading the team with five blocks.

Rootstown's defeat dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Field, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-2.

Looking ahead, Rootstown will challenge Canton Central Catholic at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Field, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 3-2 loss against Coventry on the 4th.
