East Yosemite recap October 22, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Tulare Western, who defeated 178th ranked Porterville, 28-13. Kobe Portillo threw for 187 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 10 yards in the win.
Mission Oak added to the longest winning streak in East Yosemite this week by beating Monache, 39-0. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.
He was 12-21 with 1 interception.
Romello Harris was a passing and rushing force as Tulare Union beat Delano. Harris' favorite target this week was Chan Tommy, who caught 2 passes for 40 yards.
Javier Ceja was the best wideout in the league this week as the Mustangs defeated the Panthers. Ceja tallied 4 receptions for 86 yards. Noah Salazar helped Tulare Western's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 64 yards.
5-foot-10 quarterback Portillo of Tulare Western is the league leader in passing yards this season with 962. He has also thrown 9 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Lalo Nevarez. The Porterville star has 21 catches for 474 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Mission Oak takes on second place Tulare Western. Last week, Mission Oak defeated the Marauders, while Ryan Rocha's team beat Porterville.
Carl Scudder's team's Isaiah Jones is a mere 45 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. In 90 carries Jones has accumulated 955 yard this year.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Mustangs take on Mark Gambini's team. Tulare Western has allowed 107 points this season, while the Hawks have given up 41. The Mustangs allowed 13 points last week as they defeated the Panthers.
Monache moved up to 699 from 737 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in East Yosemite. Chris Likewise's team was able to move up by falling to Mission Oak 39-0.
