Basketball Recap: Pius X Thunderbolts vs. Skutt Catholic SkyHawks
The Pius X Thunderbolts had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.6 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They walked away with a 64-54 win over Skutt Catholic. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Pius X also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
Pius X got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kellan Humm out in front who scored 15 points. Humm hasn't dropped below 15 points for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Michael Haith, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Pius X has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. As for Skutt Catholic, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-4.
Pius X will take on the Junior Jays at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Nebraska (Creighton Prep is ranked 27th, while the Thunderbolts are ranked 19th). As for Skutt Catholic, they will head out on the road to square off against the Eagles at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Omaha Central has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 265 points over their last four matches.
