Baseball Recap: Gilbert Takes a Loss

If Gilbert was riding high fresh off their 10-0 takedown of Mountain Pointe on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Tigers fell just short of the Higley Knights by a score of 3-1 on Monday. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Knights recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Thatcher Johnson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on six hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Gilbert is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 7-12 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Brady Carlin was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Cameron Foegal was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.

Gilbert's defeat dropped their record down to 10-13. As for Higley, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-11.

While Gilbert had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
