Basketball Recap: Seminole Ridge Hawks vs. New Smyrna Beach Barracudas

The Seminole Ridge Hawks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their 16th straight defeat. They took a 42-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of New Smyrna Beach. While losing is never fun, Seminole Ridge can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 675th, while the Barracudas are ranked 218th).

Seminole Ridge's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jonah Pio, who scored ten points. Another player making a difference was Calvin Warren, who scored seven points.

Seminole Ridge's defeat was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-21. As for New Smyrna Beach, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season.

Seminole Ridge will head out on the road to take on the Bulls at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West Boca Raton is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games. As for New Smyrna Beach, they and the Greyhounds will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Lyman focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 32 last Wednesday.
