Basketball Recap: Benson Takes a Loss

Benson was the 80-73 winner over Elkhorn South when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Benson Bunnies took a 73-66 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Elkhorn South Storm on Tuesday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (61), the Bunnies still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Benson still got an impressive performance from Goanar Bamach, who went 7 of 9 on his way to 20 points in addition to eight boards and five blocks. The matchup was Bamach's third in a row with at least ten points. Adryn Hollins was another key player, putting up 14 points and three steals.

Elkhorn South's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lincoln Schwarz, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Schwarz a new career-high in assists (six). Another player making a difference was Cooper Mroczek, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards.

Benson has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. As for Elkhorn South, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Benson will head out to face off against Omaha South at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Benson is facing Omaha South at the right time seeing as Omaha South is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Elkhorn South, they and Omaha North will meet in a classic North v. South matchup at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.
