Preview: Barnwell Warhorses vs. Hampton County Hurricanes
Barnwell is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Hampton County is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Barnwell Warhorses will take on the Hampton County Hurricanes at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Monday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Barnwell beat Woodland 31-27.
Cameron Austin went supernova for Barnwell, rushing for 145 yards and three touchdowns, while also throwing for 174 yards and a touchdown. Austin is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played. Jaquan Peeples also helped out with an impressive 80 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Hampton County can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent matchup two weeks ago. They claimed a resounding 64-0 win over Woodland at home. Hampton County pushed the score to 57-0 by the end of the third, a deficit Woodland had no chance of recovering from.
Zion Dobson was his usual excellent self, rushing for 248 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 14.6 yards per carry, and also throwing for 78 yards and a touchdown. Dobson is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last nine games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Xaviar Garvin, who rushed for 67 yards and a touchdown on only six carries.
Barnwell has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. As for Hampton County, their win bumped their record up to 8-1.
Everything came up roses for Barnwell against Hampton County when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 41-13 victory. Will Barnwell repeat their success, or does Hampton County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
