V Section II recap Sept. 26, 2012
Phoenix Christian's John Debus rumbled for the longest rushing play in V Section II this season in his game against Antelope last week. Debus ran for 89 yards on the play and finished with 141 on the day as his team defeated the Rams.
Phoenix Christian extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Antelope, 53-24. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Gaspar Tonnesen made the biggest impact on defense this week as Tempe Prep fell to Scottsdale Christian Academy. The 6-foot-5 senior forced one fumble and recorded one fumble.
TJ Widner threw for 67 yards and 18 touchdowns. He went eight-23 with one interceptions.
Chaz Dudley was the best wideout in the league this week as the Eagles bested the Knights. Dudley tallied nine receptions for 141 yards. Sam Fillingame helped Scottsdale Christian Academy's passing attack out by catching six balls for 91 yards.
Alfred Erives was the most productive running back in V Section II this week. He ran for 193 yards on 19 carries as Arizona Lutheran Academy topped Tempe Prep. Teammate Kaleb Buchholz added to the ground attack by rushing for 42 yards.
The Cougars' Debus and Jordan Leary have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Debus has thrown for 1138 yards this season, while Leary has 19 catches for 436 yards. Erives from the Coyotes leads the league in rushing with 1037 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Phoenix Christian takes on second place Northwest Christian. Phoenix Christian defeated John Blabe's team last week, while Northwest Christian bested Sequoia.
Arizona Lutheran Academy moved up to 68 from 107 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Scott Indahl's team was able to make the jump by beating Benson 49-14.
