Baseball Game Preview: Lockney Longhorns vs. Wellington Skyrockets

The Lockney Longhorns will venture away from home to challenge the Wellington Skyrockets at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Lockney's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last four games.

Last Tuesday, Lockney beat Quanah 11-7.

Xavier Jimenez was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only one hit. What's more, he gave up only six walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5. That stolen base was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Lockney let Darrin Jimenez and Haygen Lefevre run wild. Jimenez scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Lefevre scored a run while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits Lefevre has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Esaiel Nunez, who scored two runs while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Wellington was not the first on the board last Tuesday, but they got there more often. They skirted past Floydada 6-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Skyrockets.

Lockney's record is now 6-4. As for Wellington, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
