Baseball Recap: Herrin Victorious

Herrin's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Carterville Lions 5-4. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Tigers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Chance Estes spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Herrin is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 5-8 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Herrin saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaxton Faulkenberry, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, one run, and one RBI. Those two triples gave Faulkenberry a new career-high. Talan Nemeth also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Herrin's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 7-9. As for Carterville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-6 record this season.
