Basketball Recap: Ian Gilmore's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Robinson over Cloverdale

Robinson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 65-60 heartbreaker at the hands of the Cloverdale Clovers. While losing is never fun, the Maroons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 596th in Illinois, while the Clovers are ranked 244th in Indiana).

Robinson's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ian Gilmore, who went 5 for 11 on his way to 13 points and six rebounds. That's the most boards Gilmore has posted since back in December of 2023. Cruz Dunlap was another key player, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 12 boards.

Even though they lost, Robinson was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Jahaven Duncan was his usual excellent self, going 10 of 24 on his way to 34 points and four steals for Cloverdale. Duncan's morning made it ten games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ishmael Kiteka, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds.

Robinson's defeat dropped their record down to 1-11. As for Cloverdale, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.

Robinson wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 54-51 loss against Flora on the 3rd. As for Cloverdale, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Owen Valley at 7:30 p.m. on January 10th.
