Recap: Telluride Miners vs. Caprock Academy Eagles
The Telluride Miners's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight defeat. They took a 38-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of Caprock Academy. Telluride has struggled against Caprock Academy recently, as their contest on Wednesday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Telluride still got an impressive performance from Emma Reggiannini, who scored seven points along with 16 rebounds and six steals. Reggiannini is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last nine games she's played.
Even though they lost, Telluride smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Caprock Academy only pulled down ten offensive rebounds.
Leading Caprock Academy to victory were Pennie Underwood and Mercedes Garcia. Underwood scored nine points along with five rebounds and two steals, while Garcia scored ten points along with seven steals.
Caprock Academy used a slightly different lineup for their bout with Telluride. And. Underwood made the most of the opportunity, scoring nine points along with five rebounds and two steals. A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.
Telluride's loss dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Caprock Academy, their win bumped their record up to 7-8.
Telluride will be playing at home against Ridgway at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Telluride is on an 11-game streak of home losses (dating back to last season), Ridgway a four-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. As for Caprock Academy, they will head out on the road to take on West Grand at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Caprock Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 34 on Wednesday.
