Soccer Game Preview: Westlake vs. American Fork

The Westlake Thunder will face off against the American Fork Cavemen at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Westlake's last five matchups have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Having struggled with six defeats in a row, Westlake turned things around against Pleasant Grove on Friday. They skirted past the Vikings 3-2. The victory was all the more spectacular given Westlake's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah soccer rankings (they are ranked 44th, while Pleasant Grove are ranked eighth).

Daniel Madrona and Reiker Swenson scored all three of Westlake's goals, bringing their combined season tally to five goals.

Meanwhile, American Fork entered their game against Skyridge on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Cavemen took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Falcons.

Westlake's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 5-8. As for American Fork, their loss dropped their record down to 8-2.
