Softball Recap: Olean Gets the Win

Olean hadn't done well against Fredonia recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Huskies skirted past the Hillbillies 7-6. This was a revenge game for the Huskies: when they faced off against the Hillbillies back in April, they had to take a 4-3 loss.

Olean got a big performance out of Ari Finch, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave Finch a new career-high. Anna Bates was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles.

Olean has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Fredonia, their defeat ended a ten-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 6-2.

Coming up, Olean will take on Jamestown at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Red Raiders have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.75 runs per game on average), something the Huskies will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Fredonia, they will be playing at home against Dunkirk at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
