Football Game Preview: Woodville Eagles vs. Kountze Lions

Woodville is a perfect 4-0 against Kountze since October of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Lions at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Friday, Woodville earned a 34-21 victory over New Waverly. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.

Luke Babin was his usual excellent self, throwing for 267 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.6 yards per attempt, and also rushing for 33 yards. Dustin Barlow helped out on the ground, rushing for 100 yards.

Meanwhile, Kountze hadn't done well against New Waverly recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Lions enjoyed a cozy 42-28 win over the Bulldogs. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Lions' offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

Woodville's victory bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Kountze, their win bumped their record up to an identical 7-2.

Everything came up roses for Woodville against Kountze in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as the team secured a 61-6 victory. In that matchup, the Eagles amassed a halftime lead of 47-6, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
