Baseball Game Preview: Kettering Captains vs. Seaholm Maples

For the second straight game, Kettering will face off against Seaholm. The Captains will be playing in front of their home fans against the Maples at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Kettering is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.

Seaholm hit Kettering with a eight-run fifth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Captains came up short against the Maples, falling 13-3.

For Seaholm's part, Ian Evert made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Evert also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Seaholm is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 10-15-3 otherwise. Evert was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Liam McDonald was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aaron Van De Mark, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Seaholm hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive matchups.

Seaholm's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-15-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Kettering, their loss dropped their record down to 5-13-1.
