Basketball Recap: Noah Wilson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lake Norman over Mallard Creek

Lake Norman was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 58-52 heartbreaker at the hands of the Mallard Creek Mavericks. If the Wildcats were looking for revenge after losing 66-58 to the Mavericks when the teams met back in January of 2020, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Lake Norman lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Noah Wilson, who posted 18 points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Owen Pfefferkorn, who scored ten points and eight boards.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mallard Creek to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aiden Roberson, who earned 18 points. Those 18 points gave Roberson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ahmad Savage, who put up 14 points.

Lake Norman's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Mallard Creek, they moved to 2-3 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Looking ahead, Lake Norman will face off against Davidson Day at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Wildcats will be up against the Patriots' rather soft defense (which has allowed 58.44 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Mallard Creek, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 65-57 loss against McDowell on the 3rd.
