Softball Game Preview: Headland Rams vs. Houston Academy Raiders

Headland hasn't had much luck against Houston Academy recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Rams will face off against the Raiders at 4:30 p.m. Headland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.

Houston Academy will be up against a hot Headland team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Rams' pitcher stepped up to hand Carroll a 15-0 shutout on Tuesday. Considering the Rams have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Headland got a massive performance out of Layla Goodwin, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits Goodwin has posted since back in March. Ava Allsup was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double.

Headland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .343 or higher in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Houston Academy was a bit more limited in their contest last Tuesday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Oswego. The match marked the first time this season in which the Raiders were not able to get on the board.

Headland's record is now 13-7. As for Houston Academy, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 12-3 record.

Headland might still be hurting after the 11-0 defeat they got from Houston Academy in their previous meeting back in February. Can the Rams avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
