Basketball Recap: Wekiva's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Williston, Wekiva was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They had just enough and edged the DeLand Bulldogs out 43-40. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Mustangs have posted since February 7th.

Wekiva's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Makayla Bell led the charge by going 5 of 10 on her way to 13 points. Bell has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Senaia Asanya, who went 5 for 11 en route to 12 points.

With the victory, Wekiva broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-10. As for DeLand, they moved to 8-4 with that defeat, which also ended their six-game winning streak.

Wekiva will challenge West Forsyth at 5:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Wekiva is facing West Forsyth at the right time seeing as West Forsyth is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for DeLand, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Oak Ridge at 6:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
