Basketball Game Preview: Elbert Bulldogs vs. Byers Bulldogs

Elbert is 0-10 against Byers since December of 2015 but things could change on Tuesday. The Elbert Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Byers Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m.

Elbert's tournament run continued when they took on Front Range Baptist last Saturday. Elbert fell just short of Front Range Baptist by a score of 39-37. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Elbert's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Caleb Cornell, who posted 18 points, and Ethan Tesman, who earned 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That was a full 48.6% of Elbert's points, marking the third time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points.

Even though they lost, Elbert smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Byers). They blew past Dayspring Christian Academy 70-20 on Saturday. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Bulldogs with their most commanding win of the season.

Elbert now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Byers, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1.

Elbert might still be hurting after the 67-47 loss they got from Byers in their previous meeting back in February. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Byers' Quincy Eacret, who went 8 of 17 on his way to 20 points. Now that Elbert knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
