Volleyball Game Preview: American Fork Cavemen vs. Skyridge Falcons

The American Fork Cavemen will head out on the road to challenge the Skyridge Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for American Fork and five for Skyridge.

American Fork is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Lehi, who was ranked second at the time (American Fork was ranked 19th). The Cavemen came up short against the Pioneers on Tuesday, falling 3-0.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 25-16, 25-22.

American Fork's defeat came about despite a quality game from Evan Olmstead, who had ten digs and one assist. Olmstead has been hot for a while, having posted ten or more digs the last 11 times he's played.

Meanwhile, Skyridge didn't have quite enough to beat Westlake on Tuesday and fell 3-2. While the Falcons didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Thunder 25-16 in the first set.

Skyridge started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 16-25, 19-25, 29-27, 27-25, 15-12.

Skyridge's loss dropped their record down to 3-10. As for American Fork, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-9.

Everything went American Fork's way against Skyridge when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as American Fork made off with a 3-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cavemen since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
