Baseball Recap: Swampscott Snaps Four-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Swampscott dropped their record down to 9-7 on Monday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins on the road. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Salem Witches. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Witches this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-0 back in April.

As for Salem, they pushed their record up to 7-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.

For Salem's part, Jordan O'Malley made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Salem is 3-1 when O'Malley allows one or fewer earned runs, but 4-5 otherwise. O'Malley was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kevin Soto, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Jean Carlos Vasquez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Swampscott will square off against Gloucester at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Salem, they will challenge Saugus at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
