Basketball Recap: Omaha Northwest Comes Up Short

In Friday's Canine Competition, Omaha Northwest had to take the L. They fell to the Burke Bulldogs 54-50. The Huskies have struggled against the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why Omaha Northwest lost on Friday, don't look at DaWayne Kearney. Despite the final result, he posted 11 points and seven steals. The dominant performance gave Kearney a new career-high in steals. DeAnthony Wallace was another key player, putting up nine points.

Even though they lost, Omaha Northwest was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Burke to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ryan Rummel, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 boards. Burke is 5-2 when Rummel posts eight or more rebounds, but 2-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Landon Foster, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 boards.

Omaha Northwest's defeat dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Burke, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.

Omaha Northwest wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 55-33 loss against Grand Island on the 18th. As for Burke, they will face off against Lincoln Northeast at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Lincoln Northeast's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
