Baseball Game Preview: Legion Collegiate Academy Lancers vs. West Stanly Colts

The Legion Collegiate Academy Lancers will challenge the West Stanly Colts at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

West Stanly will be up against a hot Legion Collegiate Academy team: the squad just extended their winning streak to six. Everything went the Lancers' way against Cherryville on Tuesday as they made off with a 9-1 victory.

Charlie Bailey tossed a big game, pitching 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

On the hitting side, Griffin McKain was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Kayden Blackwelder also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Legion Collegiate Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cherryville only posted an OBP of .259.

Meanwhile, West Stanly made easy work of West Brunswick on Tuesday and carried off a 15-1 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Colts.

West Stanly's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-6. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Legion Collegiate Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 17-8.

Everything went Legion Collegiate Academy's way against West Stanly in their previous matchup back in April of 2022, as Legion Collegiate Academy made off with a 14-2 win. Will the Lancers repeat their success, or do the Colts have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
