Preview: Corunna Cavaliers vs. Notre Dame Prep Fighting Irish
Corunna is on a 11-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Notre Dame Prep is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Corunna Cavaliers will take on the Notre Dame Prep Fighting Irish at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Corunna gave up the first points last Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They blew past Hamady 45-7 at home. Given Corunna's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan football rankings (they are ranked 20th, while Hamady is ranked 153rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Corunna's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaden Edington led the charge by rushing for 151 yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Tarick Bower, who picked up 96 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame Prep humbled Williamston with a 35-6 victory.
Jacob Tuttle was a one-man wrecking crew for Notre Dame Prep as he rushed for 93 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 204 yards and three touchdowns. Joey Decasas was another key contributor, picking up 119 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Notre Dame Prep's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for seven sacks. Williamston's QB won't forget Matthew Sadecki anytime soon given Sadecki sacked him seven times.
Their wins bumped Corunna to 10-0 and Notre Dame Prep to 9-0.
Corunna was taken down by Notre Dame Prep 35-8 when the teams last played back in September of 2018. Thankfully for Corunna, Connor Gaeschke (who rushed for 132 yards and four touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
