Baseball Recap: Mounds Gets the Win

Mounds lost to Summit Christian Academy back in March, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles walked away with a 12-9 victory over the Eagles.

Nikko Willis made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Mounds is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-6 otherwise. Willis was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jathan Clay was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Dalton Nail, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5.

Mounds' win bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Summit Christian Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mounds will challenge Porter at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Summit Christian Academy, they will take on Claremore Christian at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
