Basketball Recap: Legacy Academy Comes Up Short

After flying high against Menaul last Thursday, Legacy Academy came back down to earth. The Legacy Academy Silverbacks took a blow against the Jemez Valley Warrior on Saturday, falling 54-26. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Warrior this season, with their most recent defeat being a 54-48 loss last Tuesday.

Despite the loss, Legacy Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Eden Griffis posted eight points and 17 rebounds. Griffis has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 14 times she's played. Bella Luna also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Even though they lost, Legacy Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 26 consecutive matches.

The defeat snapped Legacy Academy's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 19-8 record. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.3 points over those games. As for Jemez Valley, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 18 of their last 19 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-4 record this season.

As of now, neither Legacy Academy nor Jemez Valley have any future games scheduled.
