Basketball Recap: Brighton Drops Season-High Score on D'evelyn

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Brighton). They claimed a resounding 80-52 victory over the D'Evelyn Jaguars. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 114th, while the Jaguars are ranked 302nd), the result on Monday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Brighton to victory were Austin Sickler and Micah Spotts. Sickler posted 16 points and three steals, while Spotts went 6 for 9 on his way to 16 points. The match was Sickler's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Vance Martinez, who went 5 of 10 en route to 10 points.

Kai Burmeister and Ben Goman certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Burmeister went 6 for 10 on his way to 12 points and eight rebounds, while Goman scored 16 points and five boards. The dominant performance gave Burmeister a new career-high in boards.

The win (which was Brighton's fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-5. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 22.2 points. As for D'Evelyn, they dropped their record down to 0-15 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight at home.

Brighton has already played their next contest, an 81-36 victory against Greeley West on the 28th. As for D'Evelyn, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 46-44 loss against Conifer on the 29th.
