Baseball Recap: San Mateo Snaps Three-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Terra Nova, San Mateo was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Woodside Wildcats by a score of 4-1. For the Bearcats, this counts as revenge for the 4-2 win the Wildcats walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Christian Louie spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up eight Ks. He is becoming a predictor of San Mateo's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 9-3 (and 3-11 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, San Mateo saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Travis Okimura, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI. Michael Lackey also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

San Mateo's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 12-14. As for Woodside, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last ten matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-15 record this season.

San Mateo will have a chance to go back-to-back against Woodside: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
