Basketball Recap: Maret Falls Short Against Ranked Sidwell Friends

On Thursday, Maret faced Sidwell Friends in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Maret Frogs came up short against the Sidwell Friends Quakers, falling 71-50. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Quakers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 68-46 back in January.

Maret lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Kennedy Austin, who went 6-for-13 en route to 13 points in addition to eight assists and six rebounds. That's the most assists she has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was London Liley, who went 8-for-17 on her way to 20 points and three steals.

Sidwell Friends' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Genesis Schneeberg led the charge by dropping a double-double with 17 points and 11 boards. The match was Schneeberg's fourth in a row with at least 15 points. Autumn Fleary was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 15 points and nine assists.

Maret is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 15-8. As for Sidwell Friends, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 19-2.

Looking ahead, Maret will square off against St. Andrew's Episcopal at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Maret is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.9 points per game this season. As for Sidwell Friends, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 61-52 loss against Bullis on the 10th.
