Basketball Recap: Leo Comes Up Short

Leo has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 60-45 bruising from the Angola Hornets on Wednesday. If the Lions were looking for revenge after losing 42-41 to the Hornets when the teams met back in December of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

When it comes to explaining why Leo lost, don't look at Leah Shappell. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 18 points and 12 boards. Shappell is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down nine or more in each of the last 12 games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mackenzie Collins, who posted eight points along with eight assists and six boards.

Leo's loss dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Angola, their win bumped their record up to 7-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Leo will square off against DeKalb at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Angola, they will take on Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
